Advanced and Miscellaneous Options

The Advanced options dialog can be displayed by selecting File>Options, Other tab and click 'Advanced...'

Miscellaneous Options

If this is checked then when you close the program, you are prompted to confirm the closure

If this is not checked then if you have a selection and click crop then the image is cropped immediately.  If there is no selection then the crop dialog is displayed to allow you to specify the crop.  If you check this option then Smart Pix Manager always displays the crop dialog.

If this is set then the file grid for Full Details file display mode will have a flat appearance.  Otherwise it will have a 3D look.

If you are uploading thumbnail indexes created in this program to a UNIX web server (which are case sensitive), it is recommended that you force lowercase references and set all files to lowercase as you upload them

By default, Flyover toolbars, such as the description and quick move toolbars, cannot be docked to the window (only float over it).  This option allows you to dock them like normal toolbars.

If checked then your source folders will also be listed in the Quick Move/Copy tool (so that you can move files to the folder quickly).  The Quick Move/Copy tool is displayed by selecting View|Flyover Tools|Quick Move/Copy

If this option is selected then Smart Pix does not display its entire database by default in database mode. Users will only be able to view the database by performing a keyword or description search. This option is only recommended for extremely large databases or databases accessed over a slow network

Database Performance Settings:

If you are using Smart Pix with large databases (in excess of 20,000 file records) you may find that the default options make Smart Pix sluggish.  Setting the following options will significantly improve performance:

Smart Pix caches the entire set of display records (i.e. all records of files in the current database) in memory to allow full sorting, grouping and faster navigation. However with very large databases, this may cause Smart Pix Manager to load very slowly.  To speed up loading select this option and choose a smaller record cache size such as 2000 records.

Note: If you disable caching of all records then you will only be able to sort on the following fields when in Database mode:  Filename, Path, File Type, Windows Type

If checked, then the cache is not limited when performing searches on database files (do not use this option if your searches generally return more than 2000 files)

By default, when you click the 'Add Keyword' in right-click menus the keywords are displayed as menu items.  If you have many keywords this may be slow to update and it is recommended you check this setting so that a dialog is used instead

Advanced Options

These are settings related to advanced functionality within Smart Pix Manager which generally do not need to be altered.

Setting this will allow you to cancel image loading by selecting a new image.  Otherwise selecting a new file during loading has no effect

By default when launching files their long (32 bit) name is used when launching encased in quotations.  If this does not work with your editing application you can choose to launch with 16 bit names instead

With some video types, such as MPEG, capture does not work well unless a full re-display of the application is performed before the capture.  This option forces the application to minimize then re-display before performing the capture

If checked then Windows code will be used for moving and copying files, instead of the internal code

Specifies whether JPEG images are rotated and cropped using a lossless (no image quality is lost) or lossy (some quality will be lost upon saving) routine

If you have a wheel mouse, this setting allows you to specify the effect of rolling the mouse wheel.

If selected then video or audio files that are larger than the value specified will be launched to their default windows player

Many high-end digital cameras set a special field within the image specifying its correct orientation.  Using this field your images can be automatically rotated for the correct display.  If you check this item then after retrieving images from your camera you will be prompted to confirm any automatic rotation that needs to be performed.

Allows you to chose whether Smart Pix Manager should create standard quality images (faster display or smaller thumbnail files) or high quality thumbnails (higher definition)

When checked a short explanation of their function is displayed when you hover the mouse over buttons and controls.  File Information is also displayed when hovering the mouse over the status bar

If this is true and a file is missing from a CD-ROM then it is actually checked first to ensure that it is the correct CD-ROM before announcing that it needs to be inserted
